CCG to recruit ‘critical friend’
20 July 2017

NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group is on the hunt for a new “critical friend.”

It is advertising to replace long-standing lay member Tom Morton who retired at the end of May.

The post, for four days a month, pays £13,136. Lay members do not usually have a previous specialist or professional knowledge of the organisation they represent.

The CCG plans and commissions health services for Portsmouth.

Dr Elizabeth Fellows, who chairs the governing board, said: “We are looking for a high calibre individual to join our board. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the NHS, want better outcomes for local people and have a strong sense of accountability and probity.

“They will share responsibility as part of the team, including other lay members, to ensure that the CCG exercises its functions effectively, efficiently, economically with good governance and challenges us where necessary.

“They will in effect be a critical friend. But these are really exciting and fast-changing times for the CCG, as we help develop and help shape new services and an innovative health and care economy to provide the best possible care for the people of Portsmouth.”

Phone 023 9289 9500 for details.

The closing date for applications is July 31, and interviews will be in mid-August.
